About the event
Irish duo Bicep may be best known to some for that euphoric self-titled debut album of 2017. But their headline status was already long overdue by that point. The pair’s label, Feel My Bicep, launched in 2012, and between then and now they have fine-tuned productions to encapsulate the nuances that make rave so compelling. Emotive, rolling, broken, dirty, unexpected and littered with references to what has been and what is yet to come.
They’re in good company here, with future-minded faces descending on The Depot en masse. 808 State pioneered acid, while Jeff Mills, The Wizard, has pushed techno forward since the 1980s, his jaw-dropping mixing and appreciation for energy levels unparalleled. Similarly keen to play with tempo and pace, Truss & Tessela’s Overmono and Djrum unleash chaotic stampedes one moment, opening guttural rabbit holes the next. Mor Elian’s rise to prominence on the electro scene is testimony to the fact there’s still justice in the world. Avalon Emerson and Call Super are masters of adventurous space-age rhythms. And there’s funk here too, from Josey Rebelle’s worldly beats to the exotic rhythms HAAi unearths. In short, tonight is an escapist’s delight.
