A bright white runway cutting through the cavernous concrete interior of Depot Mayfield provided one of last year’s most unexpected fashion collaborations.

In November, Haider Ackermann’s new line for the sportswear giant Fila was launched at our Manchester venue. A significant departure from his refined tailoring, the runway was filled with neon bodycon, bomber jackets and trainers.

By showing the collection at Depot, Ackermann wanted to draw on Manchester’s legacy in fashion and its alternative cultural history. Once named ‘Cottonopolis’ for its pioneering production of textiles during the Industrial Revolution, the city is equally well known for its music scene and alternative club culture.

The two combine in Ackermann’s catwalk, which was followed by a striking dinner setting in Depot’s Archive space. With guests including Andrew Garfield, Chloe Grace Moretz and Emma D’Arcy, it looks like Manchester’s the place to be.
